DETROIT -- A police officer, who was rescued from his burning vehicle by an onlooker, was reportedly drunk and high.
Chief Ralph Godbee tells the Associated Press crews had been attempting to reach the sergeant before his crash on I-96 around 4:00 a.m. Thursday.
NBC25’s sister station, WDIV-TV, reports the officer crashed on I-96, and a passer-by jumped in to rescue him. The rescuer pulled the officer from the car’s flames, saving his life.
Chief Godbee tells WDIV that the sergeant tested positive for alcohol and a controlled substance. He has since been suspended as the investigation continues.
