Gov. Snyder has signed a bill that will move 200 Genesee Co. inmates into surrounding county jails.
FLINT -- Governor Rick Snyder has signed a bill that’s designed to move prisoners out of Flint and into surrounding counties.
It’s part of a $325 million supplemental appropriations bill. Ultimately, the bull helps out the departments of Community Health, Corrections, Human Services, State, State Police, Transportation, and Treasury by including $131.8 million from the state’s general fund.
This bill also crates a $1 million pilot public safety program for Flint. The money will allow 200 inmates from the Genesee County jail to be placed in surrounding Mid-Michigan jails. Gov. Snyder hopes this will free up space in the over-crowded Flint area jail, and allow Michigan State Police to take more criminals off the streets.
