FREELAND -- Update: July 20, 1:00 p.m.

Governor Rick Snyder has required flags to be lowered across Michigan Friday in honor of Aaron Ullom.  The fallen seaman will be laid to rest this week in his hometown of Midland.

Flags should return to full staff Saturday.

The body of a Midland sailor killed in action has arrived home.

Aaron Ullom's casket was flown into the Midland-Bay City-Saginaw airport Tuesday afternoon, and met with full military honors.

The 20 year-old Ullom was killed last week when he was on foot patrol in Afghanistan.

Ullom graduated from Midland High in 2009 and joined the Navy.

"To see him come home like this is difficult . It's the unfortunate part of what happens," said Brad Holt, who watched the emotional procession.

Visitation will take place Wednesday and Thursday at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home in Midland.

He will be laid to rest on Friday and is survived by his parents and siblings.
