(AP) -- U.S. flags in Michigan are being lowered in honor of a soldier who died in Afghanistan. Army Staff Sgt. Joshua Throckmorton died July 5 when an improvised explosive devise hit his unit in Afghanistan's Paktia province. He was 28.
The flag lowering for Wednesday, the day of his funeral in Battle Creek, was ordered by Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder. Throckmorton served 15 months in Iraq and was three months into a one-year deployment in Afghanistan. He was awarded posthumously a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
