MSP: Bridgeport Trooper John Beemer faces drunk driving charges. He's been charged before.
BRIDGEPORT -- NBC25 has learned that a MSP Bridgeport Trooper has a warrant out for causing a drunk driving accident, and this isn’t his first offense.
We’re told Trooper John Beemer was involved in an accident on Gratiot Road in Hemlock Township around 7:50 p.m. on January 1, 2011. Passengers of that vehicle suffered broken bones and other injuries.
The driver of the at fault vehicle was Trooper Beemer. Authorities believed he was intoxicated, and a blood test was taken.
Friday, the blood test results were released that indicated that Trooper Beemer had a high blood alcohol level, and a warrant was issued.
Trooper Beemer faces three charges: Operating while intoxicated causing serious injury, operating with a high BAC, and operating while intoxicated 2nd offense.
NBC25 is told that Trooper Beemer had been involved in another drunk driving incident in 2000.
The Michigan State Police Bridgeport Post states, "The MSP has a long-standing tradition of demanding the highest possible standards of professional conduct from its enlisted civilian members. To that end, all allegations of misconduct are aggressively investigated. The process used to investigate allegations of misconduct is clearly established in department policy. Oversight of the investigation process is the responsibility of the Internal Affairs Section. Regardless of whether a criminal charge results in a conviction, employees can still be subject to administrative penalties resulting from violations of department policy. All policy violations are investigated thoroughlt and acted upon in a manner consistent with current labor-relations law and bargaining unit agreements."
NBC25 is investigating these cases now, and will have more details on NBC25 News at 6:00 p.m.
