KANSAS CITY / MT. MORRIS -- Reports say two people died after running in the Warrior Dash obstacle race the same weekend another man was paralyzed during the race in Michigan.
WDAF-TV in Kansas City reports 28-year-old Jeremiah Morris suffered a heat stroke during the race Sunday, July 31st. He was rushed to the hospital, and passed away Monday.
The Saturday before that tragedy, WDAF-TV reports Jeff Fink was rushed to the hospital for a temperature of 108, after he’d collapsed during the competition. He died on August 9th from an infection.

At the same weekend that the Kansas City challenge, the Warrior Dash was also going on in Mt. Morris, Michigan.
During the Mid-Michigan event, 21-year-old James Sa of Rochester Hills became paralyzed after he dove into a shallow mud pit. Fox 2 News in Detroit reports the Hope College student suffered a cervical spine fracture, and the injuries will most likely be permanent.
In the Frequently Asked Questions section of the Warrior Dash website, it asks if the dash is safe. The response states, “[t]here’s certainly risk involved in Warrior Dash, but we take every precaution possible to get you to the finish line safely. There will be paramedics and an ambulance on site in case of an emergency. You enter Warrior Dash at your own risk.”
The Warrior Dash is scheduled to return to Mid-Michigan next year.
