Comcast is reaching out to low income families with school children, offering $10 a month internet, a computer voucher, and free internet training.
It’s called the “Internet Essentials” plan. The plan costs $9.95 plus tax. In order for families to qualify, they must meet the following criteria:
- Have at least one child getting free lunches from the National School Lunch program
- Home must be in Comcast’s Internet Service area
- Haven’t subscribed to Comcast Internet Service within the last 90 days
- Have no overdue Comcast bills or unreturned equipment.
At the time of enrollment, families can also choose to buy a computer for $150.00 plus tax. The computer comes with security and parental control options.
The company's also offering free training- online, in print, or in person to help students and families learn how to best utlize the internet.
The program is designed to help students excel in school, and allows parents the chance to work and communicate online at home.
