If your airline flight is delayed, you could get double your money back thanks to new airline rules.
The Transportation Department is now mandating airlines to give bigger compensations to customers who experience a delay or lost luggage.
The USA Today outlines some of the changes. The article says the following are now the rules:
- If an international flight is left on a tarmac for more than four hours, the airline can be charged up to $27,500 per passenger.
- If passengers are bumped from an oversold flight, they can get double their price of their tickets up to $650, and if their flight is delayed for longer, they can get up to $1300.
- The new laws require airlines to display all extra fees on their website and in visible locations at the airport.
CNN News reports that this is just the “take off” of new airline regulations. The media outlet reports more rules are coming, designed to protect travelers and keep airlines in check.
