Verona Township Cemetery vandalism suspects caught

VERONA TWP. -- Thanks to tips, the Huron County Sheriff says they’ve caught four teenagers believed to be responsible for graveyard vandalism.

A 17-year-old Filion man, 18-year-oold Bad Axe man, and two 16-year-old girls from Bad Axe have been arrested in connection to the crimes.

The group’s accused of knocking over 25 headstones at the Verona Township Cemetery, some of which dated back to the 1800’s. The cost of the damage was over $14,400.00.

When we first brought you this story, the community was outraged about the crimes and began offering rewards of their own to lead to the arrest of those responsible. The total of awards pledged reached $2,425.00.

The four teens’ cases are now being passed on to the Huron County Prosecutor to decide on charges.
