SAGINAW CO. -- The former Buena Vista Township Manager, Martin Williams, pled guilty Wednesday to misusing public funds.
The 42-year-old is charged with five counts of failure to Safekeep Public Money and one count of Willful Neglect of Duty. He faces two years in prison for the first counts, and a one year misdemeanor for the last count.
The Michigan State Police investigated Williams for about 14 months in 2009, looking into a citizens group’s allegations that Williams misused township funds.
In exchange for pleading guilty to the charges, five other charges were dropped.
Williams is scheduled to be sentenced in late September, where a judge will also determine the amount of restitution he must repay Buena Vista Township.
