BEECHER -- A toddler has died after drowning in a bucket of water in her backyard.

The Flint Journal reports the 11-month-old girl’s mother found her face down in the bucket outside their Beecher home Wednesday.

The child was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, but she didn’t survive the drowning.

The Associated Press reports the drowning appears to be an accident.

Tragedies like this can happen in an instant.  The Mayo Clinic reports, “anyone can have a water-related accident — even children who know how to swim.” The clinic suggests that parents should be in the water with their child at all times, especially around swimming pools.  The clinic also recommends keeping buckets in high areas where children cannot reach them and in a place where they won’t accumulate water.  Parents are also encouraged to learn CPR.
