BURTON -- Cade, the Burton Police Department Canine, has died in an accident.

The police department says the beloved dog passed away Wednsday during an off-duty accident. The Flint Journal reports Officer Greenway and Cade were doing some training around 3:30 pm, when a tennis ball they were using went into the raod.  Cade was then reportedly struck by a car and died.

Cade served alongside Officer Tony Greenway for three years.  The Burton Police Department reports that during his short career, he’d helped catch “countless fleeing felons, located lost individuals, and assisted their fellow officers in the fight to keep drugs off our streets.”

In 2009 Officer Greenway and Cade were honored as Burton Police Officers of the year.

The department says, “the loss of Cade will have a lasting impact on our entire agency. Our condolences go out to Officer Greenway and his family.”
