Should Michigan ban teachers from "Friending" students?

A Missouri court has temporarily stopped plans that would have banned teachers from talking with students on Facebook and Twitter.

According to NBC25’s sister station, KRCG-TV, the law would have prohibited teachers from talking with students and even former students, who are still minors, on social media sites.

The proposed law outraged many who said it violated the first amendment; proponents said it helped protect both children and teachers from sensitive situations.

Friday, lawyers signed an injunction that will last 180 days.

In Michigan, it appears that most schools decide whether it’s in the best interest for faculty to “friend” students on Facebook or “follow” them on Twitter.

Do you think Michigan should consider a law that bans teachers and students from communication on social media? Tell us why or why not below.
