GENESEE CO. -- The Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) is canceling all door to door services at the end of this month.
The MTA reports Genesee County is terminating its contract with the transportation company for the service that provides assistance to and from homes / appointment locations. In a release, the company says these cuts are coming due to major budget issues. “Due to decreasing tax revenue caused by the drop in property values, the Senior Citizens Services Advisory Committee recommended cuts of 3-% from the Senior Millage fund and the elimination of Senior Care Transportation,” the MTA states.
Edgar Benning, general manager of MTA Flint says, "We're going to do as much as we can do, but to provide service that is at the higher level, that's going to be difficult for us to continue simply due to the cost."
MTA Flint is looking for money from Medicaid to possibly help bring the service back.
People who still need the home pickup will be forced to use the “Your Ride Curb to Curb” service instead.
The MTA says people with questions on the changes can contact the customer service department at (810) 767-0100.
