DETROIT -- A military jet scrambled to escort a passenger plane to safety after suspicious activity was reported on board.
Frontier Airlines Flight 623 made a safe landing in Detroit after the crew reported two men were spending a long time inside the bathroom on board, and a third man waited in the forward galley before using the bathroom, also for about 20 minutes.
CNN reports the incident didn’t appear to be terrorist related, though the U.S. Department of Homeland Security was on high alert on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 due to rumors of potential threats. The media outlet states, “ Out of an abundance of caution, authorities sent two F-16 jets to shadow the flight until it landed safely at JFK at approximately 4:10 p.m....”
Three people were taken into custody. The plane was swept by a bomb squad and security; nothing dangerous was found.
