CARO -- The Michigan State Police (MSP) Caro Post is consolidating with the MSP Sandusky and Bad Axe Posts.

State Police say they’re making the change in order to create a regional post that will serve the Tuscola, Sanilac, and Huron Counties.  Across the state, MSP are closing thirty-three posts, leaving only twenty-nine remaining.  The plan is expected to save about $17.7 million dollars in next year’s budget.

“Even though the Sandusky and Bad Axe posts are closing, troopers will remain in the area and service will continue uninterrupted,” stated F/Lt. Mitch Krugielki in a press release.  “By moving to a regional service delivery model, commanders will gain more flexibility in scheduling troopers and responding to emerging public safety needs within the region.”  While the posts are closing, troopers will continue to work from detachments on investigations and police matters.  The Caro Post will now be open to the public Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

MSP say while they’re closing doors, safety won’t be jeopardized.  They report that the move is allowing them to put more sergeants on the road. They’re also enhancing their patrol car technologies, to allow sergeants to do administrative duties while they’re out in the communities.
