KOCHVILLE TOWNSHIP -- Federal officials gathered at Saginaw Valley State University Friday afternoon for a public discussion about he threat of Asian carp reaching the Great Lakes.
"We know that Michigan really loves its natural resources and its water and its fish and we are going to do our best to make sure the Asian carp do not become established in the great lakes," said John Goss, who was appointed by the White House last year to spearhead efforts to keep the invasive species under control.
The U.S. government has set aside $80 million to combat the problem.
Officials from federal, state and local governments in the Midwest have been working together to keep Asian carp from invading large bodies of water.
Senator Debbie Stabenow was supposed to attend the forum, but had to remain in Washington, D.C. for work related reasons.
