Collaboration announced as Gov. Snyder travels in Asia
MIDLAND -- Big ideas are forming inside a small lab at the Michigan Molecular Institute in Midland.
The company has announced a partnership with Tokyo-based ECO Research Institute that will lead to a new facility being built in Midland.
"What we do is we take paper and we micro grind it, then we combine it with some plastics and make a foam or hard product," says Dr. Adrian Merrington, senior associate scientist for MMI.
The plastic pellets that will be created at the plant can then be used to make a number of plastic products like toys and chopsticks.
The collaboration will be called Eco Bio Plastics Midland, and will create 30 jobs once the facility opens.
More jobs at the plant could soon follow.
"We send a lot of waste paper to Asia for recycling, and now we can use it here," adds Merrington.
