The changes Facebook made last week have privacy groups asking for an investigation.

Nine privacy groups have sent a joint letter to the Federal Trade Commission recommending that it should investigate the ways Facebook collects data about its users' online activity.   

The groups say the changes Facebook has made give it much greater ability to disclose users' personal information to businesses.  For example, when Facebook users type a brand in their status, it automatically “recommends” pages and brands in the right column, pulling the information from the person’s private profile.
