You always knew that what you posted on Facebook was being seen by hundreds, if not thousands, of eyes, but when the new Facebook layout launched, many realized that their status wasn’t as private as they once thought.  Now, with the up-coming Facebook Timeline, many have questioned if Facebook is going too far, or if this is just another way to share your life with friends and family.

Mashable, a website that studies social media, technology, and business, says its important to understand the privacy settings in order to protect yourself from those who you don’t wish to see your entire history.

Mashable suggests you begin looking through old posts and photos and “edit or remove” them now before it is published to the timeline.

You may also want to look at your privacy controls. If there is someone you don’t want to see your photos or certain information, customize your privacy and select what information you want that person to have access to (or be denied from).

You can also make photo albums “restricted,” and can ask people to “unsubscribe” from your feed.

While these steps are suggestions to keep your account private, you must always remember that what is published online is going to be public in some way or another.  Someone can always pass on your posts and/or photos. So, always be cautious when posting anything online.
