Flags to be lowered Friday in honor of Sgt. Sprovtsoff of Davison

DAVISON TWP. -- Governor Rick Snyder has ordered flags to be lowered Friday for U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Nicholas A. Sprovtsoff of Davison.

The 28-year-old was killed during battle in Afghanistan on September 28th.  A memorial will take place at 2:00 p.m. on October 16th at the VFW Post 4087 in Davison Township.

Gov. Snyder states, “Michigan has lost a great marine who devoted his life to protecting our freedoms. While words are only a small gesture of support, our thoughts and prayers are with Staff Sergeant Sprovtsoff’s family and friends.”

The governor’s office reports Sprovtsoff’s personal decorations include the Bronze Star with combat V, the Army Commendation Medal, the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal with combat V, two Army Achievement Medals, two Combat Action Ribbons and two Good Conduct Medals. He was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously.
