The cantaloupe listeria outbreak continues to become more deadly.
NBC News reports the outbreak has now claimed the lives of 23 people, and sickened over 90 others. While none of those deaths have been here in Michigan, this has become the deadliest food-borne illness in about 25 years. The below AP video explains more on where the CDC believes the outbreak came from.
It can take up to two months for a person to notice any listeria symptoms.
According to the Mayo Clinic, initial symptoms include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea. If the infection spreads, symptoms can also include headaches, stiffness of the neck, confusion, loss of balance, and even convulsions.
The Mayo Clinic also reports pregnant women are at a higher risk of getting the illness.
If you think you have any of these symptoms, you should contact your medical doctor immediately.
