Starting October 16th, the Michigan State Police will be cracking down on unsafe driving practices.
The MSP motor carrier officers are teaming up with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for “Operation Safe Driver,” a week-long effort aimed at reducing the number of commercial vehicle involved crashes.
The MSP report that more than 36,000 people are killed in crashes caused by unsafe commercial drivers each year across the U.S.
“Crash reduction is the responsibility of every driver,” stated Capt. Harold J. Love, commander of the MSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (formerly the Traffic Safety Division).
“Operation Safe Driver brings awareness to the personal responsibility that commercial and non-commercial drivers have to operate their vehicles in a safe and respectful manner.”
During the week long event, officers will be looking for distracted driving, unbuckled seat belts, moving violations, and other unsafe driving practices.
