Old Broad Street Restaurant goes up in flames

FLUSHING -- Fire crews from at least eight departments responded to a massive fire at the old Broad Street Restaurant in the 6300 block of Pierson Road near the Flushing and Mt. Morris Township lines Saturday evening.

The fire began around 6:00 pm.

High winds caused the flames to spread, and people were forced to evacuate from businesses across the street.

Eastbound Pierson Road was shut down as crews battled the blaze.

The fire was contained by around 8:30 pm, and crews stayed to monitor hot spots.

Fire officials believe the fire could be arson and are continuing to investigate.  Anyone with information should contact the Mt. Morris Twp. Fire Department at 810-785-1521.
