(AP) -- Currently, Michigan’s laws say that if a teacher or school employee has sex with a student who is 18-year-old or older, then it could be considered consensual. Now, lawmakers are trying to change that rule.
The Associated Press reports the Senate Judiciary Committee will consider a bill Tuesday that would make it a crime for school employees to have sexual relationships with any student of any age. The AP reports the lawmakers are hoping this would prevent teachers, administrators, and other faculty from taking advantage of students.
We want to know your opinion on this. Do you think that if an 18-year-old student has a “consensual” sexual relationship with a teacher or school employee, the faculty member should face criminal charges? Vote on our poll and leave us your comments.
