Former Buick Open tournament director Robb Grainger has died after suffering a massive heart attack Monday night.

Grainger played a pivotal role in putting on the tournament, which left Grand Blanc Township after 2009.

"He was really good to work with. He understood all facets of the operation. He worked very hard to make sure that it was a successful tournament. He was a total professional and one of the class people that I worked with," said Al Abrams, who was media director for the Buick Open from 1996-2008.

The 40-year-old Grainger collapsed while playing basketball Monday.

Grainger leaves behind two children.
