Governor Rick Snyder has signed a bill into law that makes it easier to prevents criminals from collecting welfare benefits.

Under the new law, the Department of Human Services is now required to check with Michigan State Police before giving public assistance to ensure that anyone with an outstanding felony warrant won’t receive the aid.

While it is already illegal for felons to collect the benefits, this new law makes it easier to catch the criminals trying to get a piece of the state benefits. The governor’s office says this legislation will also make it easier for police to track down those with felony warrants.
