DETROIT -- The state won’t pull teachers’ licenses even if they’re given poor ratings on their yearly evaluations.
The Detroit Free Press reports State Superintendent Mike Flanagan says that despite the rulings made recently on concerning teacher certifications, he doesn’t want to threaten teachers’ jobs based on their annual reviews.
Currently, under the recent ruling, teachers who have three straight years of poor reviews could lose their certifications. However, the Free Press reports Flanagan sent a memo to teachers saying that language would change before the rules took effect.
The Michigan Department of Education will hold a public hearing on the proposal on November 16th at the Wayne Regional Educational Service Agency.
