The sailboat that capsized in a storm during the annual race from Chicago to Mackinac Island July 18th was not suited for the competition.
That's the finding in a new report, which says Wingnut's sails were too big for its weight.
The crash took the lives of Saginaw's Mark Morley and Suzanne Bickel.
The U.S. Sailing report criticized the design of the boat.
It called the boat "highly inappropriate" for the long race and in an area known for violent thunderstorms.
