SAGINAW CO. -- A Carrollton High School student was taken to jail Tuesday after bringing an unloaded handgun to school.

Police say the 18-year-old man brought the gun into the school building in order to show it off to a friend.  When officials heard about it, they immediately took action to ensure the safety of the other students.

Authorities say the student is enrolled in the district’s special education program.

School officials and police are investigating the situation.
