Man who turned himself in after allegedly shooting his wife pleads guilty

CHIPPEWA TWP. -- A 56-year-old man has pled guilty to 2nd degree murder in the death of his wife.

Isabella County Prosecutor Larry Burdick reports on April 1, 2011, Gary John Reen showed up to the Sheriff’s Department, claiming he had just shot his wife, Cheryl.  When police arrived at the home on East River Road in Chippewa Township, they found her body in the couple’s pole barn.  Police say she died from gunshot wounds.

Reen was charged with murder, and was taken into custody.

Monday, Prosecutor Burdick reported Reen pleaded guilty to 2nd degree murder.  He faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.  A December 8th sentencing has been scheduled.
