STATE COLLEGE, PA. -- Penn State’s coach, Joe Paterno, has announced his retirement in the wake of a sexual abuse scandal involving former members of his staff.

MSNBC reports the college level coach with the most wins in history stated he “wished [he] had done more” to report the allegations of abuse.

An investigation has been ongoing revolving around allegations that Jerry Sandusky, a former assistant coach, sexually assaulted several boys.

While Paterno has not been criminally charged, officials say he was aware of the abuse.  He reportedly told his boss about it, but never took it to the authorities.

The MSNBC report indicates that Paterno will retire at the end of this football season. The media outlet says Paterno hopes the Nittany Lions will conclude the season “with dignity and determination.”
