GRAND RAPIDS (AP) -- An 8-hour public visitation has been scheduled for retail pioneer Frederik Meijer at a venue that exemplifies the billionaire philanthropist's legacy to West Michigan and the Grand Rapids area.

The visitation will be held from 2-10 p.m. Tuesday at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids.

Meijer died Friday at Spectrum Health System in Grand Rapids after suffering a stroke in his home. He was 91. Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park opened in April 1995.

The 132-acre conservatory and park is made up of natural wetlands, woodlands, meadows and display gardens. It reflects a blend of Meijer's "passion for sculpture" and the love of gardening held by his wife, Lena, according to an obituary emailed from Meijer, Inc.
