NBC News reports a computer analyst discovered that a software has been secretly collecting information from millions of cell phones across the country.
The report indicates the software was created by a company named Carrier IQ, and has been linked to data-gathering on approximately 140 million phones.
NBC reports it can track a person’s location, what they type into their phone, any web searches, and it cannot be disabled.
Legislators are looking into the situation to determine how to move forward in an attempt to stop the gathering of personal information.
