General Motors is offering to buy back any Chevrolet Volt after reports were released of several Volt fires in crash-test scenarios.

The Detroit Free Press reports while this is not an official buy-back program, CEO Dan Akerson reportedly stated he would be willing to repurchase the vehicles from owners if they have a major concern and give them a loaner vehicle in the meantime.

The buy-backs come after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation into the Lithium-Ion battery when the Volt caught fire after a crash test.  The Huffington Post reports the flames were so fierce that they caught nearby vehicles on fire.

So far, there have been no real-life crashes that engulfed the Chevy Volt in flames.  However, the Detroit Free Press reports they are willing to send a team to drain the battery of any volt that may be involved in a car crash in order to prevent any fires.  The reports also says that Chevrolet is considering changing the battery design.
