MT. PLEASANT -- Central Michigan University and the CMU Faculty have reached a tentative agreement.

The university reports the details of the three-year contract aren’t being released until it is ratified, but the agreement finally came after nearly 14 hours of negotiations facilitated by Isabella County Circuit Court Judge Paul Chamberlain Thursday.

The disagreements between staff and the university have been going on for several months. On the first day of the Fall semester, faculty went on strike, but a judge soon ordered them back to work and a fact-finder was hired to help the two reach a deal.

In late November, faculty rejected a contract offer from the university. CMU President Laura Frey said she was “shocked” at their rejection and that it “made no sense.”
