The nation's unemployment rate has dropped to eight-point-six percent and there is a similar trend here in Michigan. Today we went to work to find out where the jobs are at.
The latest unemployment numbers out of Washington are finally showing a decrease in unemployment. Numbers for November are at 8.6 percent, thats down from 9 percent. While the numbers sound good, Mid Michigan residents are not sure.
Flint resident Dennis Daniels says, " We're still slow as ever, I run a manufacturing company, I'm slower every year."
Some Flint residents are tired of seeing jobs go overseas.
James Day agrees saying, " Outsourcing here, they're going to get more money in another country. they're bringing other people into the country, outsourcing, moneys going out the country."
Official numbers for Genesee county confirm their fears. Unemployment is still at 9.4 percent throughout the county. Thats even above the Michigan unemployment rate of 9.2 percent.
But there are some bright spots. Some laborer positions are opening up like this one at Muffler Man. The owner is expanding and looking to hire.
Manager Debbie Stockman says, " We're looking for certified mechanics. We're looking for about 5 to 7 people."
This is also the season for holiday help. Most retailers are adding on to staff, even if its temporary. Still some employers are looking for permanent help.
