GENESEE CO. -- NBC25 is reaching out this holiday season to help those in need, and we're welcoming the community to join us. We are partnering with Dort Federal Credit Union to gather non-perishable food items to donate to the Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties Soup Kitchens.
Catholic Charities runs three soup kitchens and three sack lunch programs throughout Genesee County. They provide service to everyone, not just Catholics. Last year, they served nearly 156,000 meals- a 10% increase over the previous year. At the same time, approximately 80% of Catholic Charities' funding has been cut.
