BOYNE CITY -- Flags are to be lowered Friday in honor of U.S. Army Private First Class Jackie Lee Diener II, who was killed in battle.

Gov. Rick Snyder’s office reports the 20-year-old from Boyne City died on November 21st in Afghanistan when insurgents attacked his unit.

 “This young man sacrificed his life to preserve our nation’s freedoms,” Snyder said in a written release. “His dedication and bravery will be remembered by his family, friends, community, and our entire state.”

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City.
