Mid Michigan residents rang in 2012 in several different ways. For some, it was an occasion to party while others kicked off new years resolutions. Covenant healthcare in Saginaw county was the first place to welcome in a baby to 2012. At 7 pounds and 7 ounces, Joseph Ashton Jones Mcfee was born to the world at 3:28am. The young couple was amused because little joseph now shares the same birthday as his father.
Of course, not everyone had such a serious night. Thousands toasted the night away in Midland for the first midnight on main event. Four thousand tickets were pre-sold but crowds were actually estimated at 10-thousand. The party was even complete with a real ball drop.
Midnight on Main volunteer Jen Brick says, " The goal for our committee was to bring times square right to your hometown."
After the partying was over it was time to actually think about those resolutions that you made. Saginaw 24 hour fitness is just one of the area gyms seeing a new years day boost in membership.
Losing weight is the number resolution and perhaps one of the hardest to keep. Still, personal trainers here say there's no time like the present.
Personal trainer John Sakon says, " Its mostly people see the new year as a time to start new, start fresh."
Statistics won't be on your side. 49 percent of Americans never fulfilled they're new years resolution from 2010.
