Dustin Newton allegedly shot by girlfriend

FLINT -- An apparent accidental shooting claimed the life of a Flint man Tuesday morning on the city's west side.

The shooting happened around 8 a.m., inside a home in the 1000 block of Reynolds Avenue.

Thirty-two-year-old Dustin Newton was returning home from work when his girlfriend allegedly thought he was an intruder and shot him in the neck.

Newton was rushed to Hurley Medical Center, but was pronounced dead.

Newton's girlfriend has been questioned by police, but so far does not face any criminal charges.

His family released this statement Tuesday night: "Dustin was a wonderful father, son, brother and beloved member of our family.  We are rallying our love and support behind his girlfriend, Billie, as we remember Dustin after this tragic accident."
