FENTON -- The City of Fenton may soon allowed residents to have  backyard chickens. The issue surfaced in September when a resident asked city council members to consider changing an ordinance to allow chickens.

\NBC25 spoke with city leaders who say with the changing times and the growing focus on organic food they are seriously considering the request.

"We are real concerned with the environmental end of it and the issues. We want to make sure if they do have a coop they're going to keep it clean on a daily basis," said Building and Zoning Adminstrator Brad Hissong.

The change in he ordinance is still in the works and would be presented to city council until sometime in March.
