SAGINAW -- Saginaw Police have arrested 20-year old Lashon Hollman last week in connection to the murder of 28-year old Cassandra Nelson. He was arraigned in a Saginaw County courtroom Friday .
He's charged with premeditated and felony first degree murder, torture and carrying a dangerous weapon. Investigators did not release exactly how Nelson was murdered.
Nelson was found murdered inside her home located on North Harrison street after police stopped by residence on a welfare check.
"I was shocked. I was scared," said Mary Parham.
Parham was a friend of Nelson's and also lives in the neighborhood. Parham said she was surprised to hear Hollman was arrested as a suspect in her friend's death.
"He was nice to me. I don't know about other people but he was nice to me."
Mary said Hollman and Nelson were acquaintances but not friends but does not believe they were any issues between the two. Mary said she was concerned that Nelson did not always hang out with a good crowd.
"She had bad people around her. She always had people coming in and out of her place," said Mary.
Mary said her friend did not deserve to die the way she did and hopes justice will be served.
"I hope whoever did it, I hope they go to jail for life."
Hollman's brother told us over the phone he believes his brother is innocent and offered the Nelson family is deepest condolences.
