Twenty-two-year-old man rushed to Hurley Medical Center

FLINT -- A fire ripped through the second story of a house in the 600 block of Mott Avenue in Flint Wednesday night.

Shortly after arriving on scene around 7:30 pm, firefighters found a 22-year-old man in the basement of the home.

"Initial crew entered the structure, did a primary search, locating a victim in the basement. The victim was conscience, suffering from smoke inhalation. They escorted him out," said Flint Fire Captain Matthew Yonan, who added that the man was rushed to Hurley Medical Center.

He was continuing to be treated late Wednesday night.

"My son called me and told me the house caught on fire. That house brings back a lot of memories. I got married in that house actually," said Mona Brown, who owned the home before moving down the street a few years ago.

"That just brings tears to my eyes. I really loved that home. I was planning on coming back and buying it," added Brown.

Arson investigators were called to the scene of the fire, which caused about $10,000 in damage to the upstairs portion of the house.

The investigation was just getting underway Wednesday night.
