GOP candidate plans to shrink federal
DETROIT -- Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney touted a plan for the federal government that would include shrinking its workforce by ten percent during a campaign stop at Ford Field in Detroit Friday afternoon.
"We've seen a failure to lead, and that's why I'm running for president. I want to restore America's promise. That means less debt, more jobs and smaller government," said Romney, in front of a crowd mostly made up of members of the Detroit Economic Club.
If elected, Romney plans to reduce the federal workforce by ten percent, raise the eligibility age for Medicare and possibly eliminate federal programs altogether.
"Is this program so critical that its worth borrowing money from China to pay for it? If not, I'm going to get rid of it," added Romney.
The candidate will spend the next few days taking part in a "grassroots bus tour".
Romney plans to stop at Flint's Kettering University at 3 p.m. Saturday, for a rally inside the school's recreational center.
