(AP) -- The mother of a 6-year-old girl who court records say had burns, cuts, bruises and possible broken arms has been charged with second-degree child abuse following the child's death at a Flint-area hospital.
The Genesee County prosecutor's office says 31-year-old April Foster of Detroit was arraigned Sunday on the charge, a felony punishable by up to four years in prison.
She's scheduled for a pre-trial Tuesday in District Court in Flint.
A defense attorney likely will be appointed for the hearing.
Records show the girl, Avril Johnson, was taken to McLaren Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead Wednesday.
Foster was visiting a friend in Flint at the time of her daughter's death. It's not clear where the girl was injured.
