MIDLAND COUNTY -- The National Weather Service confirms an EF-1 tornado with winds to 90 MPH touched down in Midland County Monday evening at 6:43pm. The tornado touched down at Weinert and North and created path of damage ending near M-18 and Schaffer road at 6:48pm. Damage is reported in Coleman along Lewis Road. A neighbor says she saw a trailer flying in the air and deer moving about. They said it sounded like a train. No injuries are reported. The tornado damaged a garage and destroyed several outbuildings. Large trees were uprooted, some on homes. Coleman resident Rick Jones says he saw between 80-90 deer flee from the woods near his home. Jones says the storm damaged several pieces of his property, including a pole barn and storage trailer. Midland County emergency officials set up a mobile command center on Alamando while they assessed the damage.
"We just had gotten home, come in the house, sent the kids over to her parents. Sounded like a freight train going through. Big freight train," said Midland County resident Mark Fortier.
A tornado warning was in effect for Midland county at the time of the touchdown. The tornado lasted for about 5 minutes and created a damage path 5.1 miles long and about 125 yards wide.
NBC25 also received reports of quarter-size hail in northern Midland County.
