Hearing scheduled for Tuesday March 20th
INGHAM COUNTY -- An Ingham County circuit judge has issued a temporary restraining order against Flint emergency financial manager Mike Brown, stripping him of his responsibilities.
A meeting is scheduled for March 20th at 4 p.m. at the Ingham County Circuit Court to discuss Brown's responsibilities moving forward. In the meantime the city will run without a leader.
Residents told NBC25 this latest development puts the city's real problems on the back burner.
"It's politics. Everyone has their own agenda. We're struggling. Let's get this fixed." said resident Chris Hall.
"It's ridiculous. They are not putting the focus where it needs to be." said resident Debbie Amaya.
Brown was appointed by Governor Rick Snyder in late November of last year, and has already made sweeping changes in Flint, including an overhaul to Flint City Council powers and proceedings.
Brown also stripped Mayor Dayne Walling of his pay and duties, before restoring most of his pay and laying out a new list of responsibilities for Mayor Walling in late December of last year.
Walling issued this statement Thursday evening: There are a number of outstanding legal issues that will need to be resolved through the courts about Public Act 4. During this period, the City of Flint is sure to provide all regular services that residents and businesses expect. I will continue to work for the citizens of Flint and the Mayor's office and City Hall is open to the public as usual.
A call to Brown was forwarded to the state treasury department. An answering machine eventually said this message: Emergency manager Mike Brown will abide by the court ordered temporary restraining order. Management staff is in place to run the day-to-day operations of the city until the hearing on Tuesday.
