A Michigan State Trooper has been shot in Flint and taken to Hurley Medical Center.
FLINT -- A Michigan State Trooper has been shot in Flint. It happened on Stewart and Saginaw near the Brother's Food Center. Flint Police say the trooper was taken to Hurley Medical Center.
Michigan State Police tell NBC25 two troopers stopped to check on an altercation. At that time, a trooper was shot in the abdomen. The suspect has been arrested and a press conference is expected sometime Wednesday.

UPDATE 10:00 a.m. - In a press release, the Michigan State Police announced that at 12:22 a.m. this morning, state troopers were investigating an altercation in the parking lot of Brothers Market located on Saginaw Street. Troopers made contact with one of the subjects while the second subject fled on foot with the second trooper in pursuit.
During the foot chase, the pursuing trooper was shot. The suspect ran into a wooded area where he was later apprehended. The firearm carried by the suspect was recovered.
The trooper, an 11-year-veteran, is stationed at the Flint Post and assigned to the Flint City Directed Patrol Detail. He was transported to the hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound and released.
The suspect, a 34-year-old Flint resident, who was wanted on an outstanding felony warrant for Carrying a Concealed Weapon, was arrested and lodged at the Genesee County jail.
During the investigation, three canine teams were utilized for tracking and locating items of evidence, along with the State Police Aviation Unit.
According to police, this matter remains under investigation from the MSP Third District Headquarters in Saginaw. Once complete, the investigation will be turned over to the Genesee County Prosecutor's office for review.
