Wildfire forces evacuations in Oscoda County

Crews are responding to a wildfire in Oscoda County that has forced evacuations and has burned 1,500 acres.

OSCODA COUNTY -- Breaking news on Thursday morning as a wildfire has burned more than 1,500 acres of jack pine forest in Oscoda County and has forced evacuations, according to WPBN in Traverse City.

The fire is in the Mack Lake area just outside of Mio.  The fire perimeter is County Highway 604 to County Highway 489. 

Authorities said people living in the area were evacuated Wednesday night and about 50 homes were being threatened when the evacuations were ordered. 

According to Carol Nilsson of the U.S. Forest Service the fire has been 90-percent contained as of 6 a.m. on Thursday morning.
